Marching Band Summer Requirements

Hello Mav Band Family!

Summer Band will get here before we know it and we must all be physically and musically prepared. Here are some things to take care of right now:

  • Mandatory Registration: It is vital that everyone do their part in getting ready for next year by registering with the Band Boosters. This is required of every student in order to be considered for a place in the band program for 2022-2023, and we must give our marching show designers our final numbers. We will refer to the list of students who register when deciding how many of each instrument to design for. Most families registered at Everything Day this past Saturday and we need everyone else registered by this weekend. If you did not register at Everything Day, then please REGISTER NOW. It is recommended to fill this out on a laptop or desktop.

  • Instrument pickup (MANDATORY)- any wind players who have not checked out their school-owned instrument must come to the band hall TOMORROW, JUNE 1 between 9-3 to get it from Mr. Dimiceli. Please fill out THIS FORM ahead of time so I can have it ready for you. You will enter the school by pushing the button outside the main entrance. Tell the front office clerk you are here to get your instrument, open the door, enter the main office to the left, and then cross the foyer to the band hall. The door will be open and your instrument(s) will be labeled with your name. Remember, students are expected to own their own mouthpieces except for mellophones and marching baritones.

  • Individual practice on music - Wind players must print out their parts HERE to learn over the summer. Part assignments for clarinets, trumpets, trombones, and baritones can be found there too. All other players have only one point to choose from. IMPORTANT: You should add a shortcut to this Google folder onto your own Drive so you can have quick access. This is where we will upload all materials for the show. (Click the dropdown menu on folder name >> Add shortcut to Drive >> My Drive >> Add shortcut)

  • Section meetups - Look for communication from your student leaders. Every section will have gatherings to get to know each other and to work on music/marching before arriving in July. If you have not been contacted by one of your leaders by the end of this week, then please let me know.

  • Physical conditioning - We highly encourage everyone to take care of themselves in order to be physically ready for marching band. Your directors and student leaders have already begun our health and fitness program, and you should do your part too. We all know the sun will be out, so do what you can to have the endurance for the activity. Eat well. Drink lots of water. Get outside. Walk your dog. Exercise. Do these things with friends and keep each other accountable. I promise you will want to be ready once we arrive in July and this is the way to do it.

  • Physical examinations - UIL requires all marching band students to have a physical examination form on file with their band directors BEFORE participating in summer activities. They are good for two years once you begin high school. Please download and print this OFFICIAL PHYSICAL FORM to be filled out by your physician. These are due before participating in any summer rehearsals.

Please follow us on Instagram (Facebook for the parents...lol). We are"mcneilhsband" on both platforms. Have a great summer and be safe (and healthy)!

Sincerely,

Jason Dimiceli
