Private Lesson Faculty: Horn
Michael LaCour
Dear Parents of McNeil Horn Students,
I hope this message finds you well. My name is Michael LaCour, and I am excited to announce that I have come out of retirement to join the music department at McNeil High School as the horn instructor. I bring with me a wealth of experience in music education, having spent three decades at Round Rock High School and Canyon Vista Middle School.
My journey in music began as the fourth assistant at Round Rock High School, and I later had the privilege of opening Canyon Vista Middle School as the head director. After 22 fulfilling years there, I retired, but my passion for music and teaching the horn never waned. I continued teaching private lessons in various school districts, including Round Rock ISD, Eanes ISD, and Lake Travis ISD.
Unfortunately, personal circumstances, including my father's declining health and eventual passing in February 2020, led me to spend more time in Florida. Additionally, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic further delayed my return to teaching. However, during this time, I had the opportunity to find an excellent replacement for my students, thanks to a talented friend and former master's student at UT Austin who took over many of my former students.
Now, I am thrilled to be joining the McNeil Maverick Band, an outstanding musical organization. In my interactions with the students, I have been impressed by their positive attitude and dedication to music. I am eager to work with each student who is interested in honing their skills and becoming a better horn player.
As we embark on this musical journey together, I encourage you to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have. I am here to support your child's musical development and ensure they have a fulfilling experience in the band program at McNeil High School.
Thank you for entrusting me with your child's musical education.
Warm regards,
Michael LaCour
